Pleurisy

Pleurisy, also known as pleuritis, is a condition characterized by inflammation of the pleura, which are the thin membranes that surround the lungs and line the chest cavity. The pleura consists of two layers: the visceral pleura, which covers the lungs, and the parietal pleura, which lines the inside of the chest wall. The space between these two layers is called the pleural cavity, and it normally contains a small amount of lubricating fluid that allows the layers to slide smoothly against each other during breathing.
It's essential to seek medical attention if you experience severe chest pain, as pleurisy can be a symptom of serious underlying conditions. Treatment should be tailored to the specific cause of pleurisy to effectively manage the condition and alleviate symptoms.
